InterLibrary Loan/Document Delivery for Distance Learning
Materials such as book, article, patent, thesis, report, can be ordered through the NJIT Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery Service Office. The library staff will arrange for the delivery of books and photocopies of articles, either by mail or fax. For materials not owned by the NJIT library, the ILL Office will obtain them from another library.

Please note: The Robert W. Van Houten Library at NJIT cannot provide course related textbooks, workbooks, or software as required by course instructor.

  1. Request a book and/or article via one of the following methods

    1. Use the NJIT InterLibrary Loan Form for distance learning users.

    2. Fax your completed order form at: (973) 643-5601

    3. Mail your completed order form to:
Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery Service Office
      Robert W. Van Houten Library
      New Jersey Institute of Technology
      323 Martin Luther King Blvd.
      Newark, NJ 07102 - 1982

    4. Materials owned and available at the NJIT library will be processed and shipped within two business days upon receipt of request. The loan period for NJIT materials is twenty eight days. Because of the extra time involved in delivering materials, there will be a ten days grace period (i.e. 38 days) for NJIT off-campus students only.

    5. Materials that the NJIT library must order from another library will take longer to receive.
    6. All photocopies of requested articles will be shipped directly to your mailing address as indicated on the Library Materials Order Forms.
  2. Request for renewing books

A Renewal Request Form located on the back cover of the book should be completed and this information about renewal can be sent before the due date in the following ways:

    1. Phone the Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery Service Office at (973) 596-3204

    2. E-mail your request at  LIB_ILL@adm.njit.edu

    3. Fax your request to (973) 643-5601

The NJIT Library will either fax or email your confirmation of the renewal provided that the item(s) was(were) not requested by someone else. Books obtained from other libraries may not be renewable, depending upon the lending library's policy.

  3. Late return

Late return of NJIT owned materials will be fined at the standard library rate of 10 cents per day per item. Late return of materials on loan from other institutions may result in a hold placed on your diploma/transcript, larger late fees, and possible fines and fees of a lending institution when applicable.

  4. Number of items that can be borrowed

A maximum of 10 items per semester will be issued to an NJIT off-campus student. This includes journal articles, books, and interlibrary loan documents ordered through the library.
